Koala Conventions - 'Whitsundays Creative Arts Festival'

Much More than just Workshops!

We hope you enjoy browsing our website and find many projects to tempt you. Each year we have dozens of fabulous two and four day workshops teaching a wide range of Creative Arts, such as hand embroidery, machine embroidery, silk painting, painting, felting, beading, wearable arts, fibre arts, quilting, applique and much more! The perfect way to indulge your creative side and make new friends, whilst enjoying the beauty and relaxed atmosphere of the region.

We have a great team of expert tutors, authors & designers who bring a wealth of experience to our events, and we feel very fortunate to be able to work with them. Not only are they true specialists in their chosen field, they are a great bunch of people too! They play a huge part in creating the atmosphere of fun and laughter that our events have become famous for. We work hard to maintain this atmosphere and level of customer service, which is why so many of our customers return the following year. These events began in 2000 in Brisbane, with just four tutors and twenty students. We have now become annual hosts to over three hundred people from all around Australia and a great many from overseas.

Koala Conventions after holding annual events in Brisbane for the past 16 years have now merged the event in the 'Whitsundays Creative Arts Festival'. Nestled on the coast of the Great Barrier Reef this region not only offers stunning views and a beautiful summer climate but many tour options a great opportunity to turn it into a family holiday.

For delegates who are not too tired after the day in class, our tutors provide free evening presentations on a variety of subjects or mini workshops to further your skills or to just try a new technique. These are very popular with our students and are always in great demand.

During the 7 days of this Festival we arrange evening presentations, a fashion show, handmade markets, a Japanese & Chinese Gallery by the world renowned Margaret Lee, tour options, partner and school holiday programs and wearable arts competitions for year 11 and 12 students.

We have the very exciting Gallery and Koalas Event Shop. The Gallery features all the projects for next years workshops, where you can browse over 60 works of art on display, this is a real treat for the enthusiast and is especially popular during our open days where you can see the works up close while making your choices for the next event. Our very large shop features a huge range of Tutors kits and a myriad of books and embroidery supplies, many not easily available.

Delegates will leave our event knowing you have had great value for money, having learnt from the best, enjoyed good food in great company and made many new friends in a beautiful relaxing and inspirational location. To help spread the cost of attending, we have a very popular instalment payment option, where you secure your workshop places with a deposit on booking and spread the balance over the months leading up to the event. You are welcome to join us for just one workshop or to make a holiday of it and join us for the whole seven days!

The fees for the 2 day workshops are $365.00 which not only includes 2 full days of tuition by International and Australian tutors but also morning, afternoon tea and a substantial lunch on both days. In order to showcase some of the excellent caterers and restaurants in the region, the event catering will be supplied by a number of different suppliers, offering a great choice to our delegates. Proof of the excellent value, and the genuine customer service that we offer, can be seen in the number of delegates that have joined us for more than 14 years.
